About the library
The State Public Library was established in Anykščiai in 1937. The Library was burned away during World War II and re-established later.
In 1995, the Library was transferred into more spacious premises. In 1998, the first Lithuanian bookmobile began serving residents of remote villages.
At the time being, the Library has the departments of Readers Service (lending, common reading-room, the Internet reading-room, Music & Arts reading-room), Children’s Literature (lending, reading-room), Regional Studies & Publishing, Acquisition & Processing. The Library has 2 city and 19 village branches.
The readers may use the Internet. For disabled readers the books are delivered at home. The visually impaired readers may use the talking books. The personal library of Monsignor Albertas Talačka is stored at the Library.
