About the library
In late 1950, Panevėžys District Library was established. In 1974, the Library was reorganized into the District Central Library with 70 branches all over the district. In 1978, the building for the Central Library (Beržų St 50) where it operates currently was finished.
In 1996, the District Central Library has become the Public Library of Panevėžys District Municipality.
In 2000, implementation of the new ITs has started. The Library has joined the establishment of the Lithuanian Integrated Library System (LIBIS) and obtained LIBIS software and hardware.
In 2004, in addition to the Public Library, Ramygala city branch and 34 village branches have operated in Panevėžys district. Collection of photographic works Iš Ustronės istorijos (From the History of Ustronė) of the photography artist J. Vaupšas is stored in the Library.
The following museums are hosted by the Library: Museum of J.Tumas-Vaižgantas and Book-Smuggling (Ustronė steading, Krekenava sub-district, Panevėžys district, Tel: 8~698 71 162, Opening hours: Tuesdays-Saturdays 9:00-17:00); G.
