About the library
In the primary sources Rietavas Library is related to the name of Oginski. It had quite a few rare books then. In 1928, a bookshop – reading-room of the Temperance Society was opened in Rietavas. It was mostly comprised of educational books and literature of religious nature. The year 1937 is considered to be the establishment date of Rietavas Library.
After the Rietavas district was abolished in 1963, the functions of the Library have changed. It became Rietavas City Library. The year 2000 was significant to Rietavas City Library as it became a public library with seven village libraries affiliated: Labardžiai, Lioliai, Daugėdai, Tverai, Medingėnai, Pelaičiai and Girdvainiai. As of 2005, the Library stock consisted of 82,493 items of prints.

The Internet is available for use and electronic data bases are available for search. Mūza Literary Club meets at the Library for 30 years already.
