About the library
Skuodas Public Library was established on 1 February 1939. It had a collection of 500 copies of books and 93 readers.
In 1963, the Library has settled in the present building. In 1977, it became a central library with 23 village branches.
In 1992, 7 village branches of the Library were joined to the school libraries. After the reorganisation of the district public library network in 1999, all district libraries entered into subordination of the Public Library.
At present, the library network consists of the libraries of 5 secondary, 3 basic and 1 primary school, library branches of 6 basic schools and 13 village branches.
The Library collects a general book stock and has readings rooms for Periodicals & arts, languages and Internet, reference and regional studies as well as the toy collection for children. Upon request, elderly and disabled users are served at home. Various events are organised: the Children’s Book Week, the Spring of Poetry, the Samogitian Readings festal competition, etc.
