About the library
The Library was established in 1944. Later, the centralized district library network was formed uniting the Central Library and its village branches.
At present, the district residents are served by 24 libraries: Švenčionys District Municipal Public Library, 2 branches of the city library in Pabradė and Švenčionėliai, and 21 village branches. The Public Library has 3 departments: Children’s Literature; Reader Service, Bibliography & Reference; and Acquisition & Processing.
A stock of various publications amounting to 53 thousand documents is stored. These are the books, serials, continuing publications, and periodicals. The Internet and data bases are available for use.
The Public Library has 2,217 readers, 779 of which are children. The Public Internet Centre operates in the Children’s Literature Department. Here is a toy collection, Boružėlė Puppet Theatre and Šaudyklėlė Ethnographic Club.
32 thousand visitors come to the Library annually. The Library has 40 work places for users, 11 of which are computerized ones.
